“You dont make a photograph with just a camera.

You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen,

the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved” Ansel Adams

My name is Shirley and I currently live in South Yorkshire, in a small village on the edge of Sheffield!

Since moving to Sheffield I have joined the wonderful Christian family at Christ Church Dore and have been exploring ways to create images that resonate with my faith, that express God’s love and bring a sense of the beauty of His creation. I tend to work in projects so some of my work is presented in this website under the Project heading.

I have exhibited my photographs nationally and internationally and been awarded medals, awards and distinctions for my work, most notably ARPS from the Royal Photographic Society, AFIAP in recognition of the number of images accepted into International exhibitions and a London Salon of Photography medal in 2016. I have held solo exhibitions at the Royal Photographic Society Headquarters in Bath and at Howard Hall in Letchworth and also exhibited in a number of galleries in Bedfordshire.

I love ‘Capturing the Moment’, that never to be repeated gesture, action or happening, wherever it is to be found.

Lockdown created many challenges and opportunities. Shillington and District Camera Club has, as with most clubs, adapted its meetings, embracing Zoom. This has been a very positive experience as we have been able to listen to speakers from further afield which has stirred many of our creative juices. Personally I have tried creating Cyanotypes and making my own photo books using techniques learnt online, started to create audio visual presentations and undertaken some remote studio photo shoots.
